What is virtualization?

It's when you know you have something—but you really don’t.

While there are many virtualization technologies around, ours is quite unique. Most others promise benefits such as higher security, reliability, and availability but cost a lot to acquire, implement, and maintain. Not NComputing. We save you money right from day one, with the same immediate benefits, and even more benefits over time.

Our desktop virtualization technology multiplies your computing capabilities by allowing up to 30 users to simultaneously use a single computer. So you can cut your costs (significantly), with products that are extremely easy to use, simple to set up and maintain, and incredibly eco-friendly, too.

Most people only use a small percentage of the power built into today's PCs. NComputing eliminates that wasted power by sharing it with up to 30 other users. The solution is based on our desktop virtualization software and our very small, very durable access devices. And there’s no need to worry about special training for your IT staff or users, because this rich PC experience is easy to manage and is compatible with standard PC applications. By multiplying the power of your PCs and slashing maintenance expenses, you can cut your desktop computing costs by up to 70%. And the single-digit wattage draw is friendly to the environment—and your electricity bills.

Thousands of schools, governments and enterprises have deployed hundreds of thousands of NComputing seats to make optimal use of their PCs. Think of NComputing desktop virtualization as a great way to leverage new generations of powerful new PCs that Moore's Law tells us will continue to arrive on the scene each year.

How it works

The NComputing solution runs on our mature desktop virtualization software, developed and refined over the past 12 years, which loads onto standard PCs and allows them to be shared by multiple users. Each person runs their own applications, just like if they had their own PC. And each person has their own keyboard, monitor, and mouse. All of the computing takes place on the shared PC, and the user's keyboard, monitor and mouse communicate with the shared PC through our durable access devices.

The advances in the CPU and PC industry are legendary. Today's entry-level PCs feature blazing 2 GHz dual-core processors and high performance memory. Running word processing and email on a machine like that is like commuting across town in a jet fighter. With NComputing, multiple users share that extra power. Do you have more than one user on your home computer? Maybe one user account for each family member? Sure, each person gets their own software, settings, screen colors, and so on. But only one person can still use the PC at a time. Until now. NComputing virtual desktop software allows all of those user accounts to be used at the same time by dividing the computer's resources into independent sessions. So each user has their own rich PC experience. It also functions as a data manager that transmits and handles the desktop display and remote activities from the user’s keyboard and mouse (through the NComputing access device). The virtualization software communicates efficiently with the NComputing access device via UXP (User eXtension Protocol).

Thinking thin client? Think again.

We hate when people call our access devices thin clients. Why? Because thin clients are so much more expensive, don’t deliver a rich PC experience, and rely on thick servers with expensive software. We use standard PCs as servers. So costs per user are much, much lower. We draw much less power, too, and require far less IT support. Best of all, our software installs on the shared PC in minutes.

The advantages

There are many advantages with NComputing solutions. But four stand out:

  • Cuts PC costs by 70%
  • Compatible with standard PC technology
  • Drastically reduces IT complexity
  • Slashes electrical consumption by 90%

NComputing Computer Access Terminal

Like all NComputing access terminals, the new L230 and L130 dramatically cut computing costs by sharing the untapped power of standard PCs. Best of all, IT staff and end users do not need special training because our solutions are easy to manage, eco-friendly and compatible with standard PC applications. And like all of our L series, the L230 and L130 can use standard Ethernet infrastructure, so that your users can be located as far away from your shared PCs as you need them to be.
